What do red high heels have to do with breast cancer?
They send a message that you are ready to fight cancer and
look good doing it!
Wearing red shoes says to the world “Hey look at my feet
and not my bald head!”
When the author received the news of her diagnosis in April
of 2007, she headed to the nearest department store for some retail therapy.
I walked into Macy’s
and the shoe department was the first area I came into. I walked around the
area; perusing all of the red shoes in stock. I had been wanting; craving is a
better word, some red high heels for the longest. Buying those red patent
leather Rampage high heels instantly made me feel better. They were sexy, fun,
stylish, eye-catching…everything I always hoped to be. I told myself that if I
needed chemotherapy or radiation, I would arrive in style! Yes, I would show up
to my appointments in those damn red high heels! (Book Excerpt)

Saltwater Taffy and Red High Heels: My Journey through
Breast Cancer is a book dedicated to anyone fighting breast cancer, breast
cancer survivors or anyone who has a loved one battling the disease. To the
author’s disappointment, she could not locate a book on breast cancer authored
by a young African-American woman that would detail every step of the journey
to remission. So she put on her best red shoes, snuggled up with some hot tea
and saltwater taffy and began to capture every moment of this victorious battle
from finding the lump to getting the news, from surgery to chemo, to hair loss,
chemo and radiation. No stone is left unturned and no detail is taboo.
Follow Crystal Brown-Tatum on her journey through breast
cancer. Along the way, you’ll meet a few new friends and be inspired by their
love and commitment to the author and you’ll be encouraged by the author’s wit,
honesty and candid confessions of fear. |
